SIGIR 2021 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. How will SIGIR 2021 be held?
    SIGIR 2021 will be held completely online using a set of tools, including Zoom, Gather.Town and a platform called Underline. The program at glance is available from here. The table below shows how each part of the program will be organized. The main parts of the technical program (papers, posters, tutorials) will be organized as ‘flipped classrooms’, where the presentation videos will be available before the conference for the registered participants to watch, and then during the conference, the authors/presenters will be available in two different sessions (to accommodate attendees from different time zones) to answer questions.

Regular long and Perspectives papers Presentation videos available through Underline Authors available during two different sessions to answer any questions through Zoom. Each paper will get about 10 minutes of discussion time.
Short papers, Resource papers, Demos Presentation videos available through Underline Posters will be available during a window of 24 hours in Gather.Town for attendees to walk around (virtually) and visit. Authors available during two different sessions, each an hour, in Gather.Town to interact with.
Tutorials Tutorial videos available through Underline Presenters available during two different sessions, each 90 minutes, on July 11th to answer any questions, and in some cases, run synchronous exercises.
WorkshopsAt the discretion of the workshop organizers. The workshops will be held on July 15th. The format will be at the discretion of the workshop organizers.
ICTIR 2021 At the discretion of the ICTIR organizers. ICTIR 2021 will be held on July 11th. The format will be at the discretion of the ICTIR organizers.
SIRIP At the discretion of the SIRIP organizers. SIRIP will be held on July 14-15. The format will be at the discretion of the SIRIP organizers.
DC At the discretion of the DC organizers. DC will be held on July 11th through Zoom and is an invite-only event.
KeynotesN/AKeynotes will be live with Q&A through Zoom. They will be recorded for conference attendees to watch later. Salton Award Keynote will be recorded and used for a watch party later on July 12th.

  • Gather.Town will be open 24/7 throughout the conference (July 11-15) where the participants can walk around (virtually) to mingle with others, as well as visit the virtual booths set up by our sponsors.

  2. I am an author/presenter. What do I need to know?
    Your track chair should have sent specific instructions about what you need to do before and during the conference. You can also check out this page for detailed instructions. Make sure you register for the conference (early registration deadline is June 15th) soon and send any questions you have to your track chair.

     

  3. Where are the proceedings?
    The proceedings will be available from ACM Digital Library around July 10th.

     

  4. How do I register?

  5. Are there any discounts for registration?
    Yes, we are pleased to offer various forms of discounts to those in need — either based on their country of residence, or through a request. See the registration page for more details.

     

  6. I have a family member to care for during the conference time. Can you help?
    Yes. We have limited funds available for supporting those who have childcare or other familycare needs during the conference. Please use this form to submit your application by June 7th.
