Doctoral Consortium

Doctoral consortium papers must be submitted by March 10, 2006. They must be submitted electronically via the submission web page.

The Doctoral Consortium provides doctoral students with a unique opportunity to discuss their proposed PhD research with experienced IR researchers and other doctoral students. The objectives of the Doctoral Consortium are:

  • To provide a forum where doctoral students can discuss their proposed research with experienced IR researchers (members of Doctoral Consortium Program Committee) and other students
  • To give students an opportunity to interact one-on-one with experienced IR researchers.
  • To give students an opportunity to establish a supportive community of other students at the same stage as themselves.

Posters SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

Poster presentations offer researchers a unique opportunity to present late-breaking results, significant work in progress or research that is best communicated in an interactive or graphical format, for which there is more time for discussion and questions than is sometimes available in a full paper session. Poster presentations are also a good way to present work applying information retrieval approaches and techniques to new domains and problems. Please note, however, that posters describing work at the proposal stage cannot be accepted. Poster submissions are welcomed in any of the areas identified in the call for papers.

Submissions must be in English and consist of an extended abstract (of 2 pages maximum in SIGIR format including references and figures) that emphasizes the research problem and the methods being used. The submission format for posters is the same as that for papers. Posters should be submitted in PDF format. It is the responsibility of authors to ensure that their poster proposals use no unusual format features and are printable on a standard Postscript printer. Posters exceeding the 2 page limit will be rejected without review.

SIGIR review is doubleblind. Therefore, please anonymize your poster submission. This means that all submissions must have no author identifying information: do not put the author(s) names or affiliation(s), and "anonymize" citations to your own prior work in the poster. They must be submitted electronically via the posters submission web page.

LaTeX and Word templates for SIGIR submissions are available from the ACM website, using the "Option 2" style. This is also the style that will be required for the final posters.

Demos SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

We can accept demonstration proposals in PDF. It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that their proposals use no unusual format features and can be printed on a standard Postscript printer. LaTeX and Word templates for SIGIR submissions are available from the ACM Website. Accepted proposals will be published in the proceedings. Demos should be submitted via the submissions web page.

Tutorials SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

SIGIR 2006 will begin with a full day of tutorials, each of which should cover a single topic in detail.

Proposals are solicited for tutorials of either a half-day (3 hours plus breaks) or full day (6 hours plus breaks). Submissions should be made to the Tutorials Chair and should include a cover sheet and an extended abstract.

The cover sheet should specify: (1) the length of the tutorial; (2) the intended audience (introductory, intermediate, advanced); (3) complete contact information for the contact person and other presenters; and (4) a brief biography (max. 2 paragraphs) for each presenter.

The extended abstract should be 3 to 4 pages, and should include an outline of the tutorial, along with descriptions of the course objectives and course materials. Tutorial proposals in PDF format must be sent via email on February 27, 2006, at the latest to the Tutorial Chair, Peter Ingwersen, Denmark: pi@db.dk

Papers SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

Authors are invited to submit research papers representing original, previously unpublished work to SIGIR 2006. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Submit new original research papers. Papers may not be submitted to other venues concurrently with SIGIR. If duplicate submissions are identified, authors will not be permitted to submit papers to the SIGIR conference in the following year.
  • Papers must be submitted electronically, via the submission web page.
  • Please first register as a new author (unless you already have registered into the system as a reviewer) and then follow the link "Register paper" under the Author heading on the left pane.
  • Submitted papers should be in the ACM Conference style, see the ACM template page , using the "Option 2" style. This is also the style that will be required for final papers. Papers must not exceed 8 pages in 9 point font and be submitted as pdf files. Papers exceeding the limits will be rejected without review.
  • SIGIR review is doubleblind. Therefore, please anonymize your submission. This means that all submissions must have no author identifying information: do not put the author(s) names or affiliation(s), and "anonymize" citations to your own prior work in the paper.
