committed to sustainability, and we are working closely with our venue, the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC), and with our suppliers, as well as the Professional Conference Organizer (PCO) company to ensure that we minimize the event\u2019s carbon footprint and mitigate any negative environmental impact that this event may have.<\/p>\n<p>The SIGIR 2023 Organizing Committee will be making a concerted effort to produce only the barest minimum of essential conference materials as part of our wider focus on sustainability, and here are the items we are taking consideration as part of our approach to sustainability commitment:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transportations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using online meeting platform to host organizing committee meeting instead face-to-face meeting.<br \/>\nSuggesting the use of public transportation to travel to the conference venue.<br \/>\nMinimize oversea shipment when delivering conference materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food and Beverages<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using local food to avoid longer shipment.<br \/>\nProvide more vegetables portions when serving food.<br \/>\nUsing water dispenser at the conference venue instead of bottle water.<br \/>\nReduce food waste by precise estimation of number of dining guests.<br \/>\nUse reusable utensils instead of disposable tableware.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accommodations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Choose hotels nearby that are also committed to sustainability.<br \/>\nSuggesting more nearby hotels to avoid longer transportation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Onsite Decorations and Print Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ensure all the carpets for the exhibition stands are recyclable.<br \/>\nUse digital proceedings instead of paperback proceedings.<br \/>\nUse LED light bulb for decoration purpose.<br \/>\nUse the conference website to provide general information.<br \/>\nAll decorations will be produced according to standard measurements to avoid waste production.<br \/>\nAvoid the use of plastic and non-recyclable materials during construction.<br \/>\nProvide name badge recycle box by the registration desk.<br \/>\nMake use of all the digital opportunities that the venue has to offer, such as LED screen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  class='hr av-1uulfl-fe05fea5a88704c60a5cabe48f8082a0 hr-default hand, as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we kindly request all attendees to complete a brief online questionnaire that will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes. The purpose of this survey is to record your travel itineraries, daily transportation details, and conference participations. By collecting this information, we aim to calculate the carbon emissions generated during the conference period. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, as it will enable us to better understand and address our environmental impact.
