Rackham Auditorium

One of the most beautiful and impressive of the University buildings is the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies. This building, designed to be a center for the general activities of the Graduate School, was given to the University in 1935 by the trustees of the Horace H. Rackham and Mary A. Rackham Fund, together with a generous endowment.

Rackham Auditorium is a majestic, 1060-seat hall featuring intricate Art Deco detailing, plush seating and a gold-leaf ceiling. It has been the site of many major occasions in the advancement of knowledge, with numerous notable lectures, academic symposia, and scholarly papers presented in the sixty plus years since its opening. In addition, it is the favorite venue in the area for intimate musical performances, particularly chamber music, small ensembles, and world music.
