The Women in IR session of the 42nd ACM SIGIR Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval, 2019 held in Paris, took place on July 23, 2019. The event was co-organized by WIR co-chairs Nazli Goharian and Suzan Verberne who took over from co-founder Laura Dietz. The session featured a keyote by Mounia Lalmas (Director of Research at Spotify), titled "My life as a researcher: what I loved, what I learned and some humour always". A panel discussion on the gender gap in both academia and research followed, with discussions on addressing this at different institutions/organization, as well as other pertinent topics on gender differences. A mentor-mentee matchmaking was also organized. The session was attended by over 200 participants.
